Canyon is definitely at the age where you know if he either likes or dislikes something.  He is able to communicate this more and more each day, verbally and expressively.  The kid has a very expressive personality.  Which I love.

One thing, or shall I say, person who Canyon absolutely is crazy about, is my mom.   He loves her.  He can’t say, rather won’t even attempt to say due to fear of imperfection, is grandma. It’s always poppa.  Now we’re realizing it’s for both poppa and grandma.  He did start saying whamma for a time referring to my mom.  He still does occasionally, but it’s usually poppa.  Whamma is a bit fitting for my mom though. Especially anyone who knows her. She is a bundle of fun.  Canyon does love to have fun with her.

This morning I was vacuuming with a little of Canyon’s help.  We were in the kitchen and he was checking out the vacuum. He looked up past me and with this massive grin. I turned around to see what he was smiling at. It was Whamma.  She had arrived. He even ran to her and gave her a huge hug. This is big.  Canyon is just now starting to be more affectionate and lovey. He gave her kisses and just wanted Whamma to hold him and be around her all day.  He even wanted her over me to put him down for nap. I tried, but he wasn’t having it. It was Whamma.

So I thank God. I thank God for Whammas. I thank God for Whamma who loves my son so much.  I am blessed to have such an envolved mom in my life, still.   Thanks Mom, love ya.

update

January 4, 2008

Okay, here’s the update on our travels, a little late. We are finally home.  Canyon did do well on the flight down to see our family even with his double ear infection. He loved playing with his cousins! We all finally got to meet the new addition to the fam, Eyob.  Eyob is a joy and is settling in well [finally as my sister-in-law and brother-in-law are probably thinking].

Brad and I [as tradition from last year] came down with some nasty form of the flu New Year’s evening. That was not fun. Thank goodness for family who watched Canyon while we lyed in bed. In fact, I am still somewhat recovering as I am writing this.

We flew home yesterday [Thursday] still recovering from being sick. Canyon did have  a melt down on the plane for about 40 minutes three quarters through the flight.  But was finally captivated when he saw the lights of Seattle and the Space Needle from the sky. It was fun to watch his face and be reminded what a joy he is.

My parents picked us three from the airport and we ventured home. All for me to get extremely motion sick on the car ride home. Ugh. At one point we were driving with both back windows down with the rain, and a shopping bag in my lap. Good times.

We finally got home. Brad did everything while I lyed on the sofa whining. Brad fed and changed Canyon and took care of me. Amazing MAN!  After getting Canyon to bed, Brad and I went to bed as well. At this point just wanting to fall asleep and start fresh the next day.  Not so fast.  About a half an hour after Canyon went to bed, he started to fuss a bit.  Brad went into his room to check on him and picked him up. Canyon got sick. Then proceeded to throw up more onto the floor and on Brad.  Poor kiddo.  Fun times.  Again Brad was the amazing husband and cleaned up the floor while I consoled Canyon.  The man is so wonderful and never complains.  Love you B.

 So, there’s the lengthy update.
